How Our Service Works:
1. Placing Your Order: Given the current delays in Starlink shipping, we recommend that you initiate the order for your equipment through John Lewis. You can access the latest link to their website for the standard hardware: Link Here.
An added advantage of purchasing from John Lewis is the inclusion of a direct two-year warranty from them. Should you encounter any challenges while placing your order, please don’t hesitate to reach out, and we’ll gladly assist you.
2. Order Confirmation: Kindly inform us once you’ve successfully placed the order so that we can keep a record and schedule your installation. You can reach us by phone, email at starlink@cotswoldtelecoms.co.uk, or conveniently use our new ‘Request an Appointment’ button provided above.
3. On the Hardware Installation date: Our friendly engineer will attend your property and conduct a survey of possible locations for your Starlink system to receive the best system possible
For the Starlink service to receive a signal, an unobstructed view of the Northern sky is necessary. Depending on your property’s orientation and location, we typically identify a suitable spot for equipment installation via the Starlink phone app.
Our installation service includes all required brackets, poles and labour. If your Starlink system requires a longer cable we have these in stock subject to availability. There is an additional charge for longer cables as we buy these from Starlink.
It’s important to note that the Starlink Version 2 ‘V2’ hardware lacks an ethernet port on the router and exclusively offers WiFi connectivity. If connecting to other network devices demands an ethernet port, please inform us, and we can supply one for you.
In certain cases, additional networking equipment might be necessary to optimize your internet connection’s placement, particularly if your router’s positioning necessitates it.
The monthly charge for the Starlink service is £62.50+VAT (£75.00), this is payable to Starlink directly via a monthly card payment. Importantly, you are not bound by a lengthy contract as is common with conventional telecom providers. Once your new service is operational, you have the flexibility to discontinue existing fixed line broadband services or even your entire phone line rental agreement.
Depending on the mounting location of the dish, a lengthier cable might be needed. The standard cable is 50ft, but we do offer upgraded options of 75ft and 150ft cables, subject to availability. Typically, these cable options are readily available in our vehicles.
4. WiFi Coverage: As with all broadband connections WiFi coverage may not reach all areas of your property, depending on size and construction. We can conduct a WiFi survey and suggest was to improve your WiFi coverage with additional equipment.
We can also link outbuildings and surrounding properties via wireless link if required, this will allow you to have a single Starlink connection serving multiple locations.
If any aspect of your order requires assistance, feel free to reach out to us at 01285 440200. We’re here to guide you through the ordering process over the phone.
Yes, many users have reported that Starlink is suitable for online gaming and high-quality video streaming. The low latency and relatively high speeds make it well-suited for real-time applications like gaming and video conferencing.
Starlink’s high speeds are attributed to several factors:
- Low Earth Orbit (LEO): Starlink satellites operate in low Earth orbit, reducing the distance that data signals need to travel, which leads to lower latency and faster speeds.
- Frequent Satellite Passes: With many satellites in the constellation, there’s a higher chance of a satellite being in range at any given time, resulting in more consistent and reliable speeds.
- Advanced Technology: Starlink satellites use advanced phased-array antennas and laser communication to optimize data transmission, enabling faster and more efficient communication.
Yes, Starlink is faster than traditional satellite internet. Traditional satellite internet has been known for high latency and relatively slow speeds due to the signal having to travel great distances between the Earth and geostationary satellites. Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellites significantly reduce this latency and provide faster speeds.
Starlink promises internet download speeds that can range from 75 Mbps to 400 Mbps or more. Upload is normally around 20Mbps+ with their standard hardware. Starlink aims to continually improve and upgrade its system to enhance the speed and overall performance.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation being developed by SpaceX to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access to underserved and remote areas around the world. It consists of a network of thousands of small satellites orbiting the Earth.
What is the price for Starlink installation? The cost of setting up Starlink comprises two primary elements: the expense of the hardware and the fee for professional installation. Presently, Starlink charges £449 for the Starlink dish and router. The installation cost varies based on factors such as the dish’s location, the necessary bracketry, and the time required for installing the Starlink kit.
- Blazing-Fast Speeds: Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellites reduce latency, delivering speeds comparable to or even exceeding traditional wired broadband connections. This is a game-changer for activities like video streaming, online gaming, and data-intensive work tasks.
- Reliability: Traditional internet services in rural areas are susceptible to outages due to weather conditions or infrastructure issues. Starlink’s satellite network is designed to provide a consistent connection, unaffected by terrestrial challenges.
- Total coverage: Whether you’re nestled in the heart of the rural South Hams or perched on a hillside above Slapton, Starlink’s satellites can reach you. This global coverage ensures that you’re never limited by your geographic location.
